According to the researchers, "Consumers are willing to … align their purchases with their values" about sustainability. The study, conducted from April 2022 to December 2022, included more than 33,000 respondents. Researchers said the respondents were a representative sample of US consumers based on age, gender, and geography. Among the key takeaways from the report are the following: •       Sustainability is good for business. Companies focused on sustainability are outpacing their competitors regarding sales and market share. •       Consumers are switching brands based on sustainability. Switching brands based on how sustainability-focused a company is viewed is happening across all market categories, especially among younger consumers. •       Sustainability outweighs cost. With inflation, some consumers are looking for less costly product alternatives. But many consumers won't trade down to a less expensive brand if that organization is not practicing sustainability. •       Sustainability communications matter. The study found that many brands are not getting the recognition they deserve – along with the related market share and profits – because they are not promoting their sustainability practices to consumers. "Consumers and end-customers may differ on the importance of sustainability by industry. However, F&amp;G is intricately connected to the professional cleaning industry.       <image:caption>Deloitte, which provides auditing, counseling, and financial and risk advisory services for companies worldwide, has just released a sustainability study entitled Sustainability Action Report: Survey Findings on ESG Disclosure and Preparedness. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, according to Steve Ashkin, the leading advocate for sustainability in the professional cleaning industry, "is becoming the primary way companies, especially public companies, report on their current and planned sustainability initiatives."  The emphasis of the Deloitte study was to point out how many larger companies are preparing for ESG reporting and what steps they are taking. Something more organizations, including investment companies, are now requiring. An earlier study, published in March of 2022, found only 21 percent of the 300 executives in the study had established working groups, made up of key executives in an organization, to focus on ESG.   However, this study, published in December 2022 found that number had nearly tripled to 57 percent. "This is promising, and as more stakeholders and customers become more focused on sustainability, we can expect these [ESG reporting] numbers to grow," says Ashkin. "But one of my primary interests is why these companies are getting so much more focused on sustainability." As to the whys, the Deloitte study points out the main benefits these organizations anticipate in becoming more sustainable and reporting about it: Talent attraction and retention. Fifty-two percent identify this as a key benefit. Efficiency gains. 52 percent. Enhanced trust among company stakeholders. 51 percent. Elevated brand reputation. 49 percent. Premium pricing (pricing products higher than comparable brands). 48 percent Risk reduction. 48 percent. "Many other studies have been reporting similar findings for some years now," says Ashkin. "Ultimately, all these studies tell us what I have long believed: sustainability is a business opportunity, and this is true of large and small organizations." Ashkin adds that the link between sustainability and risk reduction will likely become even more critical in the coming years.   "Climate change is increasing risk and uncertainty and is already having devastating impacts on companies and communities in the U.S. and around the globe. Before joining The Ashkin Group, Johnson held significant leadership roles that have left a lasting impact. He served as the Deputy Director for the State of California’s Environmental Protection Agency, where he led the Department of Toxic Substances Control. Johnson also served as the founding Director of the City of Santa Monica’s Sustainability and Environment Division, leading the development and implementation of one of the world’s most recognized governmental sustainability programs. His leadership at SanPa International, a sustainability consulting firm serving primarily in Latin America, and as a Sustainability Expert for Arthur D. The cleaning solution is highly stable (effective for 14 days when kept in a cool, dark place), and needs only 1 minute of contact-time when mixed to 200 parts-per-million. Alex graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in Winter of 2014, earning his Bachelors of Arts in American Studies, with a focus on regional food systems and labor issues along with a minor in Economics. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>

During his accomplished career, Johnson has worked with custodial workers, business executives, and elected officials regarding a host of Green and sustainability projects. Brian is an enthusiastic outdoorsman, and perennial Californian. He often can be found working on projects to preserve public lands, when he is not at the beach surfing with his family.</image:caption>
